Usage guide
How to use it?
Zero the scale (tare), place the cup, tare again. Add the coffee (target dose), start the timer as you add water. On most models auto-shut at 5 minutes — the barista never forgets the time.

Wouldn't a kitchen scale be enough?
No — kitchen scales are usually 1g precision, not enough for espresso. An 18.0g vs 18.6g dose makes a 4-5 second difference in shot time.
Battery or rechargeable?
Timemore Black Mirror = USB-C rechargeable (10 hours). Hario VSTN = battery (2× AAA). Rechargeable models are more up to date, practical for a café.
Is it waterproof?
Most scales are IP44 → splash-resistant, cannot be submerged. Drops during brewing are normal; don't wash it.
How do I use the timer?
On most models the timer is automatic: it starts counting the moment the scale goes above 0g (bloom start). There's also manual start. Ideal for pour-over.
